Journal kept by Nathaniel Bowditch aboard the ship Astrea, as it sailed from Salem, Massachusetts, to Lisbon, Maderia, Manila, and back. The master was Henry Prince. The journal notes direction, weather, land, ship and animal sightings. Includes an account of sugar presented to the ship in Chinese, and a chart of "magnetical observations." This journal was transcribed by Nathaniel Bowditch and presented to the East India Marine Society on January 6, 1802. Bound with the log of the Franklin (Ship), Adventure (Ship), Belisarius (Ship), Anna (Ship), Sukey (Brig), America (Ship), Active (Ship), and Recovery (Ship).
